Ocean City has long been a major tourist retreat during the summer. Its famous boardwalk attracts locals and visitors of all ages who enjoy strolling the seaside and sampling a variety of cuisine, games, rides, events and much more. The Ocean City Historical Museum depicts early Ocean City with period room displays, artifacts and vintage clothing. Also on display are old photographs and postcards that capture this residential tourist Mecca throughout different periods in history.
A highlight of the museum is the Sindia room, which features a scale model of Ocean City’s famous shipwreck. Along with a lighted stained glass window that portrays the Sindia undersail, the collection exhibits the original figurehead, china and other artifacts that were on board when the ship sank and later recovered. A video and photographs offer deeper insight to the Sindia’s final voyage, which ended off the shore at 17th Street in Ocean City. Gift shop. Donations are appreciated. |
